VA New England Center for Innovation Excellence (NECIE)
The VA New England Center for Innovation Excellence (NECIE) provides the Innovation community with practical healthcare provider input to the development process, a natural clinical partner, and real-world patient input from the Veteran community as part of the design to accelerate “innovation to impact”. NECIE and the VHA Innovation Ecosystem are exceptionally aligned and positioned to design, develop, and broadly share positively impactful health care solutions.
Mission - Focus
The mission of VA New England Center for Innovation Excellence is to create the foundation for operationalizing innovation in VISN 1 and VHA’s health care settings.
The focus of VA New England Center for Innovation Excellence is
three-fold
- Technology solutions for chronic and/or complex illnesses and injuries
- Rural access to world class health care
- Health care and life-style solutions for aging veterans
Current Innovation Projects
NECIE Rideshare Project
Transportation is a major barrier for homeless Veterans to receive the care and resources they need. NECIE is committed to removing this barrier by providing rideshare services for Veterans engaged with any of the VHA Homeless Programs.
iBOT Chair by Mobius Mobility
The IBOT Personal Mobility Device (PMD) is a robotic, multi-modal product that provides people with disabilities, including disabled Veterans, with new levels of freedom and independence. The innovative design offers iBOT PMD users with cutting-edge functionality that can transform the way disabled Veterans interact with the world.
BioFab USA and ARMI
VHA is collaborating with BioFab USA and ARMI to institute large-scale manufacturing
of engineered tissues and tissue-related technologies. Bio-manufacturing has the
capacity to revolutionize health care on a global scale, and VHA is committed to
making sure Veterans are first in line to benefit.
